There isn’t a whole lot of selection when it comes to pizza in Hong Kong. Whenever I get pizza cravings which arguably is its own local rendition, I usually hit up Paisanos for a quick fix. That was before I discovered Piccolo Pizzeria & Bar though. Piccolo’s makes some legit thin crust pies using fresh and quality ingredients including parma ham, pancetta, sausages and EGGS! I’ve been dying to try their Pancetta pizza topped with a soft egg! I’ve had Piccolo’s on my to-eat list for a while now, but every time I try to go, it’s always packed with peeps considering there is a no reservations policy on the weekends.
Piccolo’s has 3 locations in Hong Kong including Sai Kung, Kennedy Town and Tai Hang. The Tai Hang joint is the most central location which is probably why it’s also the busiest. We finally lucked out and scored a table on a weekend. It was still pretty bumpin’, but we only waited for about 10 minutes as a big table was just cashing out. The restaurant has a laid back and causal atmosphere with no more than about 10 tables. The menu is straight forward focusing on appiez, pizza, pasta and snacks.
We unanimously agreed that we all wanted to try as many pizzas as we could so we skipped the pasta and ordered 5 pizzas between the 6 of us. We ordered a few appiez too just to mix it up a bit. The chicken wings were a good call. So crispy and juicy. We were tempted to order more but we wanted to save room for those pizzas. The pizzas were definitely worth saving ourselves for. The crust was super thin and crispy all the way through with just enough sauce and cheese covering every inch of the pizza. I prefer my pizzas with a more generous portion of toppings, but I ain’t mad. Piccolo’s definitely hit the spot and I’ll be back fo sho.
Fried Chicken Wings – 6 pieces ($80 HKD or $10 USD).
Piccolo’s chicken wings were mad good. The chicken skin was crispy and the meat was tender and juicy.
Fried Portobello with bacon and rocket ($110 HKD or $14 USD). The portobello mushroom was juicy and delicious with a nice crunchy crust. This would have neen even better if it was stuffed with some gooey cheesy goodness.
Calamari Fritti ($85 HKD or $11 USD). These lightly battered calamari rings were a bit bland and not a must order.
Pancetta Pizza with a soft egg, bacon and tomato ($130 HKD or $16.75 USD). This was like breakfast in pizza form and breakfast just happens to be my favorite meal! So this for me, was the BEST pizza of the night! Albeit, put a fried egg on anything and I’ll probably like it.
The money shot!
Oooohhh yehhhh … spread that ish!
Blanca “White Pizza” with slow cooked onion, creme fraiche and pancetta ($130 HKD or $16.75 USD).
The Blanca was my second favorite pizza! It was hella creamy and cheesy! If they threw an egg on this, I would be one happy foodie.
Prosciutto Di Parma with parma ham, rocket and shaved parmesan ($130 HKD or $16.75 USD).
The Prosciutto Di Parma was pretty tasty but they were pretty stingy on the ingredients. More meat and cheese please!
Suprema with pork sausage, mushroom, and red chili ($130 HKD or $16.75 USD). This was pretty legit too and flavorful. Loved the aromatic onions with the salty smokey sausage.
Hawaiian with pineapple, ham and peppers ($130 HKD ro $16.75 USD). Can’t go wrong with Hawaiian! Needs more pineapple though.
